The unlucky day of an office woman
“Hello…..you beautiful….beautiful
girl.”-the drunken man said between hiccups as he approached a frightened woman
in front of him.
“Get away from me!”-she said as she’s ready
to defend herself remove her wedges.
“I want to….be....be with you…baby…”-he
said as he tried to hug her.
With the remaining survival instinct left
inside her, she reversed her way away from him, with her left hand holding her
wedges, her right hand gripping her handbag, getting ready to sprint away from
that place.
“Come on….c…don’t be….scared…play with…with
me.”-he said between hiccups as he try getting approaching her.
Without wasting anytime, she sprinted away
from there, leaving the perverted drunken man behind. She didn’t stopped as her
adrenaline keep pumping to her vein, making her running nonstop.
She stopped once she felt that she’s
already far away from the dangerous drunken man and let out a relief sigh. But now,
she faced a new problem, she was supposed to wait for the bus to go back home, but
now she’s too far away from her usual schedule.
“Maybe I should call a taxi.”-she said as
she took out a taxi business card from her purse.
She dialed the number, hoping that the taxi
will still be available. Otherwise she have no other choice other than to go
back to the bus stop and wait for another bus to pass by. And if it still
available.
She waited for answer but to no avail, no
one seems to pick up the call.
“Maybe he’s already sleeping. Or maybe he
already quit.”-she said and ended the call before the operator answered the
call instead, and consume her bill more than it should be.
She sighed as she walked back to the bus
stop, hoping the perverted drunken man is no longer there. She sneaked her way,
inspecting every single corner of the building, making sure that she’s really
safe from any danger since there are no one waiting at the bus stop anymore.
She waited there patiently but there was no
sign that the bus will arrived. Even if it is cold, she waited there patiently,
rubbing her arms to stay warm. She was wrong when she thought she was alone, that’s
when she felt a small hand-like thing touching her feet. The color from her
face drained as her mind started imagining something out of ordinary, out of
logic. She was afraid but she was too curious to look down, and she wanted to
check what’s touching her feet. Whatever that thing is, it doesn’t seems to
harm me, she thought. She gasped as she felt something furry against her soft
skin, making her imagination became worst. She closed her eyes as she slowly
turned her face to her feet but she cancelled her intention immediately as she
was too scared to see it.
She took a deep breath as she gathered her
remaining strength. She clasped her sweaty hand together, silently praying that
everything will be alright. She can feel her cold sweat dripping from her
forehead. With shaky hands and heavy breath, she looked down to her feet and
can’t help to feel relieve when she saw a white cat beside her, looking at her
with innocent eyes, hoping that she will pick it up and share her warm in this
cold, silent night. She scooped the cat with her hands as she put it beside
her.
“Well, at least I’m not alone.”-she said
and smile.-“But the bus isn’t here yet. What should I do? Wait or walk? Maybe I
should wait another hour.”
She hummed her favorite song to calm
herself down. Her heartbeat is still beating fast due to the ‘scary’ thing
before. She turned her face to the cat, which is curling beside her. She
stroked its fur gently, as she can hear the (sound) from the cat and smile.
“You must be cold.”-she said.
She sighed as she waited there patiently,
still waiting for the bus to come. Even if it seems impossible right now.
Suddenly, there was a loud banging nearby, shocking her again. She scooped up
the cat again, and hold it close to her chest.
“W-w-what was that.”-she said as she
started to tremble like a leaf.
She tried to ignore the feeling but the
banging can be heard again, and again. It seems close to her.
She turned her head around, trying to
inspect her surroundings. She focus her senses to make sure that the banging
wasn’t approaching her but it seems to be silent now. As she let out a relief
sigh, the banging sound started again, shocking her again. She hugged the cat
in her arms tighter.
“Don’t be too curious to check the sound.
Don’t be an idiot.”-she said to herself.
But despite what she said, she ended up
walking towards the sound with the cat still sleeping in her arms.
“Please protect me kitty.”-she said.
She felt her heartbeat became faster and
faster as she approached the sound. The closer she is, the louder the banging
sound is. She stopped at the corner of an abandoned valley, tying to gather her
strength to continue her journey for the night. She slowly peeked from the
corner but saw no one, nothing was there. But the sound can still be heard. It
seems louder now since she’s already close to the source. With shaky legs, she
started walking, looking left and right. She can still hear the sound as her
heart beat faster each time she heard it.
That’s when she froze, as she can’t believe
what she saw. In front of her, an opened door, banging on the wall, blew by the
night cold wind. She chuckled as she realized, how easy for her to be
frightened by an unknown sound.
“I guess I need to go back to the bus stop
now.”-she said.-“Before I missed the bus.”
She walked back, but when she looked at her
wristwatch, she was shocked to see the short needle that was already pointing
to number 1.
“Wait, it’s already 1 A.M.I guess there
will be no bus at this hour. Well, I have no choice now.”-she said as she went
back to retrieve her wedges back.-“And you kitty, will accompany me home.”
She started walking home, holding her
wedges with her left hand, and a sleeping cat in her right arms. She sighed as
walked alone in the dark, cold and silent night. She walked silently as she
yawned along the way. It was quiet and she was the only one walking down the
road at this late hour. She thought everything will be alright. She thought
it’s just gonna be a normal walk from work. Until she heard a rustling sound.
Like someone is behind her. Her feet stopped walking as she froze.
“What should I do?”-she thought.-“Should I
turned around? Should I walked slowly like nothing happened? Or should I run as
fast as I can?”
She tried to walk away but her feet won’t
move, like it’s nailed to the ground.
“No other choice.”-she said.-“I have to
turned around and check.”
She took a deep breath and turned around to
check if there is anyone or anything following her from behind. But nothing is
there.
“What was that sound before. But it seems to
be far away from me.”-she said.
She yelped as she heard it again, she
looked left and right and saw a pile of dried leaf. And it seems like the leaf
was the source of the scary sound that she heard before.
“Oh, please.I’m too tired for jumpscare
like this.”-she sighed and continue walking until she reached her apartment.
She unlocked her apartment, and put her bag
on the table. She made her way to her room, putting the cat on the work desk
before she threw herself on the bed, tired from work, and her unexpected
journey of the night.
“Kara,you are so unlucky today.”-she
said.-“Maybe you should take emergency leave tomorrow.”
She closed her eyes and soon drifted to the
land of dreams.
